Last Tuesday, the 20th January 2015 saw three of us meet at Castle Coch car park for a walk up through Fforest Fawr toward Caerphilly mountain. (Other members of our group were sidelined with illness or were away )
Off we set with the weather looking a tad dodgy with grey clouds. The terrain was a little muddy to say the least and the higher we climbed the more grey the sky became. It started snowing quite heavily and it really was quite pretty. Walking along we bizarrely met up with another WI walking group from Pontypridd and stopped for a good natter with them. Such a coincidence !
We carried on to The Black Cock Inn on Caerphilly mountain where we hoped to have some refreshment and to use their ''facilities''We were met by the Landlord at the door who informed us the pub was closed due to kitchen problems but we were welcome to use the facilities. Phew what relief !!
Anyhow, I think the very kind people there took pity on us and provided us with coffee and a lovely toasted sandwich and even lit the log fire for us.
Out we went into the snow again and started to make our way back down to Castell Coch except ..... we took the wrong path and ended up a bit lost !! By now we were questioning what survival skills we possessed between us and came to the conclusion the answer
was .... zero !! A mild feeling of panic set in but eventually we found the right path and breathed a sigh of relief that we would not have to spend the night in the woods, in the snow.
We walked about 10kms in all, in beautiful surroundings in the snow and had a good giggle along the way. A lovely walk thouroughly enjoyed by us all.
We look forward to next week and maybe another adventure but definitely a good walk in great company.
