A message from our President.
My name’s Clare and I’m the president of Birchgrove Women’s Institute.
We’re a new WI with a new committee, and I think it would be fair to say that we’re very excited about shaping the group to provide women of all ages with an opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. I joined the WI at the beginning of 2012 – with the long winter’s nights, I wanted to do something a bit different that would get me out of the house and perhaps also make some new friends. I went along to one meeting and I was hooked. The programme was really varied and there was something for everyone!
I’ve always loved baking and crafts, so the Women’s Institute seemed like the natural choice and I’m looking forward to putting these skills to good use (perhaps to raise money for local good causes) but I’m also looking to learn new things too! Our WI definitely won’t just be about crochet and cream teas...although I’m hoping that there will be some of that! I hope that together, we’ll become a dynamic, energetic group who can make a real difference to our local community.
If you’re interested in finding out a bit more about us, please feel free to drop me a line either through our facebook group or by email... although the best way to find out more would be to come along to one of our meetings.
We’re a friendly bunch and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome!
2012, our first full year, our President, Clare came 3rd in the Glamorgan Federation Chelsea Bun competition at their annual show.
Then in 2013, Clare and Becki both won several prizes in the Glamorgan Federation Show!
Finally in the first ever Cardiff Show held at Cardiff Castle, Clare and Becki again walked away with rosettes.
The challenge is on for 2014 - who else will compete with Clare and Becki??
